Jump into the Social Recruiting Pool

Jump into the Social Recruiting Pool Tired of falling into the black hole after you apply for a job? Maybe youre overlooking the importance of social recruiting? Corporate recruiters want you to reach out to them through social networks and engage in conversation through the talent communities they are building! Get on a recruiters radar and WOW them: Glassdoor  recognized 10 Talent Warriors for  being  innovative and socially-savvy recruiters and HR professionals. These recruiters lead the pack in social recruiting so what advice do they provide for job seekers on how to stand out and impress? Its as simple as reaching out: These recruiters all agree that the best way to get on their radar is to connect with them. The majority recommend sending an invitation through LinkedIn and recommend you included why you are interested in connecting. (Hint: this means you should know about the company and the job!) Know what you have to offer: Recruiters dont have time to sift through your qualifications to figure out how you fit. It is your responsibility as a job seeker to connect the dots for them.  Steve Fogerty, Recruiter for Adidas says: show me you are a great fit for adidas Group! And do the heavy lifting; find roles that are a fit for you. Our jobs are posted, apply, then let me know why you are a great fit and I’ll pass it on to the right people. That simple! Engage in LinkedIn Groups and on Company Pages: Instead of lurking in groups, or hoping youll get found on LinkedIn, show your knowledge, expertise and excitement for what you do. Recruiters actively monitor LinkedIn groups, keeping an eye out for potential talent. Job seekers that add to discussions, show thought leadership in their field, and have a clear message about how they can contribute to a company, stand out.  Chris Hoyt,  Global Talent Engagement Marketing Leader,  Pepsico says: Showing an interest and showcasing your expertise in a company LinkedIn group for example, lets recruiters see firsthand how you engage with others and certainly makes you easier to find! More creative interaction: Kick your interaction and branding up a notch in order to stand out. Heed this tip from Carolyn Eisman  Director, Employer Brand, Enterprise Rent-A-Car: While we get significant engagement through our social career platforms, we would love to see more candidates interact in a more innovative way, such as using hash tags, or presenting a more unique look at the skills they can bring to Enterprise. Some recruiters said they were wow-ed by links to online portfolios, infographic resumes, or resumes. These innovate tools offer you an opportunity to stand out as long as they do a great job of highlighting your marketable assets. Social recruiting is about humanizing hiring: Instead of being a nameless, faceless candidate in a sea of job seekers, you can differentiate yourself by interacting through social channels. This is the very reason recruiters are moving in this direction. They WANT to learn more about candidates in order fill their positions more quickly with people who are the right fit. Research the company and its people. Then use your research to build relationships with recruiters through their social channels.

How F1 Can Speed Up Your Social Recruitment Strategy

How F1 Can Speed Up Your Social Recruitment Strategy Come to one of my events, or sit in on one of my social media strategy sessions and you’ll often hear me say: Lewis Hamilton doesn’t win races simply by driving fast. And recruiters don’t get results from social media simply by having multiple social media accounts, reverse spamming themselves with crappy job adverts and sharing junk food content like what to wear to an interview. Grand Prix drivers and recruiters need a strategy to succeed. Now a social media strategy for a marketer of a recruitment team will differ from that of the leader of the firm and the consultant at their desk â€" but the themes should be the same.  And herein begins my analogy for today. How to have a social media strategy like a grand prix driver. It’s not about driving fast â€" it’s about being competitive (and about driving faster than everyone else!) Let me set the scene: This is what you DON’T see at a Grand Prix. Empty pit lanes, no tech, a fat balding man (or woman) sauntering up, bacon sandwich or donut dripping in fat, getting in the car with a cigarette in their mouth and hitting the peddle hard and driving for 50+ laps and winning. Formula 1 teams can be hundreds of people in size, and the race, although spectacular, is only part of the process. So much happens behind the scenes (obvious statement), that by the time Lewis strolls up super lean and mean, the race may (or may not) be a foregone conclusion. (The  10,000 bottles of wine and 6,000 bottles of champagne drunk at Silverstone are a distant memory.) One thing that the team does, and especially the driver does, is study the other drivers, their tech, their fuel-stop strategy, their tyres, their lap times. All of this stuff is studied, computed and then the team add this data to their own existing strategy and adjust to suit. Plus, when the race starts all hell breaks loose (in what seems like a pretty calm way!?) and the team engages as one and flexes to compete with the other racers’ strategies on the day. Lewis does not just get in a car and drive fast â€" he is totally aware of his competitions’ tactics. He has people speaking to him throughout the race advising him of the other drivers and where they’re at and he and the team win or lose the race based on this data, and him driving fast (and let’s face it, really well!) Recruiters need to be like Mercedes! As a recruiter you need to be fully aware of your competition â€" and I’m not just talking about having a regular wasp chewing session when you spot someone posting your jobs. I mean, look at their company feeds across the social media spectrum. What are they posting, how often are they job spamming, or talking about themselves all day long (yawn!). Base your strategy on what you’re up against, not a blog you read about the best time to tweet! Have your competition got LinkedIn Recruiter licences? How are they engaging with their LinkedIn company followers? What are their consultants saying on their profiles and updates? Yes, they may have LinkedIn groups, but are they any good? Are candidates engaging with them? Can you see where they are getting ROI or are you just looking at what they have signed up for? Are their consultants blogging and being active on social media generally? How are they using Google+? So what if their consultants appear to have profiles â€" I bet most of them are poorly branded and offer little value (often the case with recruiters and Google+) â€" which is a shame! Can you attract followers from their accounts with something new? Can you spy / capitalise on your competitions’ content and followers? And don’t get me started on the fact that you are also competing with your own clients now. Is what you’re planning on doing any different or are you just ticking boxes and  spending  money? Get on your helmet, diamond studs and hit the track? Just like Formula 1, recruitment technology and social media has never been so sophisticated, expensive and potentially dangerous.  (Tyre warmers may be banned this year and recruiters are wasting precious time and branding and visibly demonstrating bad practice.) Simply nipping out with a cheque to the local Pirelli shop and buying (the on average 30 sets of tyres needed for each race!) warming them up and hitting the track is not good enough. You need to take a little time to know your competition and create strategy and tactics to win that race! (and when you’ve won, onto the next track you go!) And you never know, if you study your competition, you may even generate some candidate and job leads along the way (stranger things have happened! Watch Guido van der Garde this season â€" he may get to race and win!)

Safety Information for Women at Work

Safety Information for Women at Work If you are a working woman, most likely you are now leaving your office when it is dark or catching up on your Christmas shopping after work when it is dark.   This is why I wanted to share with you a recent email I received from my mom  about the  10 crucial steps that every woman should know to keep themselves safe in emergency situations.   I had never heard most of these before and am guilty of quite a few (who doesnt sit in their car and touch up their makeup or check their email, etc?).   I hope that you will read these tips and remember them.   Please also share with other women in your life.    As long as this  can help one woman, daughter, wife, mother or friend be more careful and avoid a terrible situation, then I know that this was worth posting.   You never know, it could save your life. Tip from Tae Kwon Do : The elbow is the strongest point on your body.   If you are close enough to use it, do! If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM.   Toss it away from you.Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse.   RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION! If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy.. The driver wont see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their chechbook, or making a list, etc. DONT DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR , LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.   If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF. Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car.   Your air bag will save you.   If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it .   As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage: A) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. B) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door.   Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars. C) Look at the car parked on the drivers side of your vehicle, and the passenger side If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out.   IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs.   Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot.   This is especially true at NIGHT!) If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN!   The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ.   RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern! As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP.   It may get you raped, or killed. Another Safety Point:      If you hear a baby crying when you are home alone, dont go outside.   Serial killers have been known to record  a babys cry and use it to coax women out of their homes. If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full ball so that you will go out to investigate and then attack. Stay alert and  keep safe! (Photo by Kelly Car Community)

Writing Resume in HTML Format

Writing Resume in HTML FormatThere are a number of benefits in using a template for your resume in HTML format. While these formats are not technically difficult to use, the benefit is that there are pre-designed templates that make it easier to create a resume. This will not only save you time and money, but it also helps you meet certain criteria such as the importance of the resume and the use of the format. For one thing, creating a resume in HTML format can be used by any employer. There are no special skills required for this type of format. The advantage to this is that it can be applied to any type of position you are applying for. Metropolitan Police Selection Process 2018 Clusters and Values

Metropolitan Police Selection Process 2018 Clusters and Values As of 2018, the Metropolitan police have been piloting a new selection process, which has resulted in major transformation. From new competencies to entirely new tests and assessments, it’s now harder than ever to pass the Metropolitan Police selection process. Luckily, here at How2Become we are one step ahead of the game. In this blog, we’ll tell you all about the NEW Police clusters and values, and how you can use them to your advantage during the Metropolitan Police selection process.Metropolitan Police Selection: Why Has It Changed? As one of the most esteemed and respected organisations in the world, the UK Police naturally have a number of values that they expect all candidates and employees to abide by, along with a strong code of ethics. In the past, the police have largely focused on the competencies of candidates rather than on their values as a person. While these values were still important, they played a secondary role. Now, the Met are recognising that it’s extreme ly important to hire candidates with strong values and ethics, and the new Metropolitan police selection process is a reflection of this.Metropolitan Police Selection ValuesImpartialityImpartiality is all about staying true to the key principles of fairness and objectivity. It’s absolutely vital that police officers can be impartial when dealing with members of the public, and with their colleagues. You must treat every single person that you meet with fairness and equal consideration, and be able to recognise and reprimand any and all forms of discrimination. Police officers must be able to put aside their personal feelings or beliefs, and make decisions with clear logic and rationale.IntegrityIntegrity is another extremely important part of the police code of ethics. Police officers must be able to act with integrity and decency at all times, and be capable of recognising both good and poor performance. As a police officer, your professionalism is absolutely integral. You are a representative of the police â€" a role model â€" and therefore it’s fundamental that you can present an honest and trustworthy approach to the public. By doing this, you can build confidence from the public in the police force, and deliver a far more effective service.Public ServiceThe third value on the list is public service. This value again links back to the police code of ethics, and is essentially about acting with the best interests of the public in mind. The police are there to protect the public, and safeguard them from harm. Therefore, it’s important that your decisions are made with this aim in mind. You must be able to evaluate different strategies, how they will be of benefit to the wider public, and take responsibility to delivering upon these. Furthermore, public service is about facing up to challenges and adversity, and overcoming these obstacles, to provide a great level of service. You must be able to engage and communicate with the public, listening to their needs and making them feel valued and appreciated by the police.TransparencyTransparency is a really important quality for any police officer to have. This value is closely linked with honesty. It’s essentially about being someone whom others can trust, and who others can have faith in. You must be able to explain, verbally and in writing, the rationale behind your decisions. You must be genuine with everyone you are communicating with, and make a concerted attempt to build trusting and strong relationships with your colleagues. Likewise, you must be someone who is capable of accepting criticism and improving your own working practice. It’s very important that you can learn from and accept your own mistakes.Metropolitan Police Selection ClustersClusters are essentially a group of core behaviours (hence cluster), which relate to the way in which a police officer should conduct themselves. There are three clusters in total, and under each cluster there are two competencies â€" so 6 competencies in total. Followed by each cluster, we’ve briefly mentioned which competencies it is linked with.Resolute, Compassionate and Committed. This cluster relates to the way in which you conduct yourself as a police employee. Think about each of these terms, and what they mean, and how they relate to other vital personal qualities. For example, being compassionate means showing empathy for others, and demonstrating a high level of care and understanding for those around you. Once you learn to understand why people behave in the way that they do, you will be better equipped to understand the individual needs of different members of the public, and will be better placed to provide them with support. The better you can do this, the better it will reflect on the police as a whole. This cluster links in with the core competencies of Emotional Awareness, and Taking Ownership.Inclusive, Enabling And Visionary Leadership. Leadership is a very important quality for any police empl oyee to have. All police employees must be able to motivate and encourage their colleagues, and members of the public, to speak out and help those around them. This is what ‘inclusive’ means, it’s about helping everyone and getting everyone involved, not just particular people. This cluster links in with the core competencies of Being Collaborative and Deliver, Support and Inspire.Intelligent, Creative and Informed Policing. This cluster is all about being open to new ways of learning and development, to ensure that you are working to your maximum capacity. You must be able to think analytically, and form creative solutions to problems. Being informed means that you take every available factor into account before making a decision â€" you must take an evidence-based approach to problems, to ensure that every decision is made with sound logic and reasoning. This cluster links in with the core competencies of Analysing Critically, and Being Innovative and Open Minded. You Might Be Interested In…If all of the above sounds interesting to you, then you will be delighted to know that we have a new 3-hour seminar in London dedicated to helping you join MET Police. Working in admin - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

Working in admin Admin jobs offer plenty of opportunities, as there are many different roles that are available. On the whole, you will be the champion that works behind the scenes. However, the way you do so and the daily duties you carry out will depend on your job title. Below, we take a look at some of the most common types of admin jobs:                Records Manager â€" Let’s begin with the role of record manager, which is a specialised function. You will help to maintain, arrange, and identify business records for risk management and legal purposes.                Admin Assistant â€" This is the role most people are interested in when looking for admin jobs. It is up to you to have records, information, facts, and resources accessible, up to date, and secure. Admin assistants are the lifeblood of all businesses.                Personal Assistant â€" A personal assistant is like an executive secretary. A lot of people go down this route when looking for online jobs for college students because it is often something they can do at the same time as their studies. It is up to you to arrange the daily working life of a senior staff member or, in some cases, several staff members. You help others to perform their job successfully, and thus organisational skills are imperative.                Team Secretary â€" Finally, a team secretary is similar to a personal assistant in the sense that you are going to need to have organisational and secretarial skills. However, the difference is that you are going to be working for a department or a team of employees, as opposed to one or two senior member of staff. This gives you a glimpse of just some of the jobs that are on offer if you decide to go down the admin route. It is certainly not all about paper shuffling! Some other jobs that fall into this category include becoming a typist, telephonist, school secretary, registrar, medical secretary, immigration officer, credit controller, bookkeeper, and bid writer. The fact that there is so much scope in admin increases the chances that you will find a job that is well suited to you. The pay range also differs considerably as well. For example, you will earn between £14,000 and £24,000 per annum as a typist, and you could earn anything from £17,000 and £48,000 per year as a registrar. As an immigration officer, you can expect to make between £21,000 and £36,000. Hopefully, you now have a better idea regarding the types of admin jobs that are available in the UK. This should aid you with your job search, as you will have a better understanding of the roles on offer and the industry as a whole.
